Have you ever found that your Fujifilm camera’s controls – like the focus mode switch, film simulation dial, or aperture ring – change on their own? One of my Fujifilm camera tutorial course students recently shared this frustration. The focus mode switch on the X-E5 accidentally changes while he’s handling the camera. In this article, I’ll show you how to use the Lock feature found in most Fujifilm cameras to prevent these accidental changes.
Selecting controls to lock
Here’s how to lock selected controls:
- Press MENU and go to the BUTTON/DIAL SETTING menu
- Find and select LOCK at the end of that menu
- Select FUNCTION SELECTION in the Lock menu
- Put a checkmark next to the controls that you want to lock – the ones that keep accidentally changing too easily

As mentioned in the intro, controls you may want to lock could be the Focus Mode, Aperture, Film Simulation Dial, or even the Q Button. This frustration is common on X-T30 bodies, where the Q button is located right on the thumb grip and is easily activated by accident.
Locking selected controls
Once you’ve selected what to lock, hold down the MENU button while shooting to toggle the lock on and off. You’ll see a yellow padlock icon confirming that those settings are now protected.

This lock will stay active even if you power off the camera, ensuring your preferred setup doesn’t change accidentally. When you’re ready to make adjustments again, just hold the MENU button to unlock, make your changes, and re-lock when done.
This quick tip can save you a lot of frustration, so you’re always ready to shoot.
