The Fujifilm X-E5 has become one of my favorite “everyday carry” cameras. It’s compact, capable, and now with a redesigned Film Simulation dial I’ve been waiting for. To make the X-E5 more comfortable and better protected, here are the five accessories I recommend, including one I tried and decided not to keep.
1) Screen Protector (Essential)
The X-E5’s LCD can’t fold inward for protection, so it’s always exposed when you’re on the move. A simple hard-plastic screen protector is cheap insurance that preserves viewability, touchscreen function, and resale value.
- Fit tip: If you can’t find an X-E5-specific protector, X-M5 protectors fit the X-E5.
- Why I like it: Easy to install, maintains touchscreen, typically includes spares.

2) SmallRig L-Bracket Hand Grip

The X-E5’s native grip is tiny to nonexistent. If you have larger hands or use bigger lenses, a compact add-on grip makes a big difference in comfort and stability.
- Comfort: Silicone grip feels secure and reduces hand cramping.
- Smart plate: Built-in Arca-Swiss base for tripods – no extra plate needed.
- Access preserved: Cutouts for battery/memory card, speaker, Bluetooth button, and strap lugs.
- Nice touch: Includes a magnetic mini screwdriver stored in the base.
- Weight/size: Adds just enough without making the camera bulky; only ~2 oz.

3) Soft Shutter Release Button
These are included with the SmallRig accessories, or you can purchase them separately. They do more than just “add some color” to your camera. The threaded soft release slightly enlarges the shutter button and adds tactile feedback.
- Faster find: Easier to locate by feel when the moment happens.
- Better control: Clearer half-press and full-press feedback encourages more deliberate shooting.

4) Thumb Rest (I’m Not Keeping It)
A thumb rest adds leverage on the back of the camera, and many shooters love them, especially for one-handed shooting. I tried the SmallRig version, but on the X-E5, the rear arm sits very close to the top-row buttons and the rear command dial.
- My issue: It impeded quick access to the AEL/AFL button and the rear command dial.
- Bottom line: The comfort gain wasn’t worth the control interference for me. You may have different needs.

5) Quick-Release Strap (Peak Design)
I like the new, heavier rope-style strap Fujifilm includes, but it’s stiff and cannot be easily uninstalled/reinstalled. I prefer Peak Design straps with their quick-release anchor buttons.
- Fast on/off: Press the buttons to remove the strap when it’s in the way.
- Note on mounting: The X-E5 strap lugs are small; use the included split rings and loop the anchors through those.
- Choices: Shoulder straps and wrist straps to match how you carry.

Wrap-Up
If you’re setting up a new X-E5, start with the screen protector. For comfort and tripod-readiness, the SmallRig L-bracket grip is a winner; add a soft shutter release for better feel. Consider the thumb rest only if it won’t get in the way of your rear controls. And if the stock strap drives you nuts, go with a quick-release Peak Design system.
