USA – Pamlico River, NC

Carolina Wind

DATES OF STAY: 10/1/2011-10/20/2012.
REMARKS:
Outfitting my ship.

LOCAL HISTORY: This is the largest lagoon on the east coast.  It is home to Cape Hatteras Nat’l Seashore and Cape Lookout Nat’l Seashore.  Notorious pirate Blackbeard was beheaded in these waters during a battle with the Royal Navy, and his ship the Queen Anne’s Revenge is sunk in shallow waters near Ocracoke.

BERTHS: Carolina Wind Yachting Center in Washington has been outstanding.  Minimal traffic, small dock with a few liveaboards, and a great atmosphere and people.  Two-minute walk to downtown Washington to the Farmer’s Market, restaurants, estuarium, galleries, etc.  The Washington city docks are right in the center of the downtown district.  For hauling out, Sam’s Boatyard is eight miles east of the city docks.

PROVISIONING: Nothing close to the water in Washington.  A bike or vehicle is required.
